As principal contractor, Clarke Energy (Aust) designed and commissioned a gas turbine power generator unit at Melbourne Water’s Western Treatment Plant to convert waste bio gases into power generation. Tankweld were responsible for the fabrication and installation of connecting pipework and structural steelwork associated with the biogas scrubber units.
About the Project
Tankweld was engaged to install four FRP Biogas Scrubber Units for processing raw water and fuel gas of a green-field gas scrubber system. In addition, Tankweld was responsible for the fabrication and installation of associated stainless steel pipework, along with constructing a steel structural framework to support the scrubber units and piping. This structure was of considerable size, being 7.8 metres high and included three levels of access walkways and connecting stairways.
Project Challenges
Like many other projects, Tankweld undertook a detailed drafting and planning program to ensure that on-site installation of the scrubbers, associated piping and access structure could be achieved with minimal site delays. In particular, the complexity and size of DN450 piping headers necessitated a specific sequence of construction, where structure erection and piping installation happened concurrently.
We worked closely with our client, Clarke Energy, to identify clashes and design issues early in the program and allowed us to address them before they became major issues.
